STAFFORCE RECRUITMENT WHITWORTH CUP SEMI FINAL

Treeton 246 for 9 Elsecar 129
After the disappointment of previous weeks Treeton were able to reverse their fortunes against Elsecar in the Whitworth Cup semi final at Washfield Lane.
Treeton were invited to defend first and their openers added 100 runs before they were separated, Steve Foster retiring for 44. Andrew Tomlinson stayed until he had recorded 9 boundaries and reached 63. Danny Kemp contributed 36 but the innings hit the wobbles and from 153 for 2 Treeton had declined to 186 for 8. This brought together George Barnes with the Pakistan player Umaid Asif and the two batsmen combine to add 60 in the last 6 overs. Asif was out on the final ball of the innings for 40 and Barnes still in with 28 runs to his credit. Luke Townsend took 3 for 39 and Ian Swallow 3 for 29 for Elsecar.
When the visitors batted it quickly became evident that the total was outside their reach. The first 2 batsmen left with 8 on the board, half the team had retired for 53 and 100 was reached when the eighth wicket fell. Elsecar were eventually bowled out for 129, short by 117 runs. Chathura Athukorala tried to repeat his Armroyd Lane heroics but became the last man to leave with 47 runs. Chris Cobb had Treeton’s best analysis with 3 for 20.

Treeton will now face Whitley Hall in the final at Tickhill on August 8th in an opportunity to reverse their fortunes of Saturday

Leeds Cricket Council KO Semi Final played on July 18th at Carlton Towers CC (Snaith)

York and District Senior Cricket League v SYSCL
Taking 1st knock after being put in to bat the home team got off to a good start on an excellent pitch and fast outfield. Opening bat D Hagan  included 4x6 and 4x4 in his splendid 72. he was well supported by D Rhodes 38 and R Nicholson 30 as the total reached 226 for 6 in the allotted 40 overs.

The visitors got away to a steady start with an opening partnership of 72 before Alex Hughes was dismissed for 28. Michael Brown continued in fine form but when he was dismissed for an excellent 73 the SY league innings collapsed with James Ward 19, Mark Wilkinson 15 and Paul Lampkin 10 managing to reach double figures as the innings petered out for 198.

PS from Chief Executive and League Chairman, Terry Bentham.

The team under Richard Skipworth were a credit to themselves and the league. The opposition, officials of the Y&DSCL, home supporters and members of league management who attended the game were very impressed with the team’s attitude both on and off the field.

To a man they proved to be wonderful ambassadors for our league.

BEN BAILEY HOMES SOUTH YORKSHIRE SENIOR LEAGUE WEEKLY CRICKET REPORT – JULY 17th

PREMIER DIVISION

Treeton 130 Whitley Hall 131 for 1
The eagerly awaited match between Treeton and Whitley Hall at Washfield Lane turned out to be much of a one sided affair. The contest emphasised Whitley Hall’s credentials for their first ever championship. Whitley’s South African ace, Jaco Castle had removed both Andy Tomlinson and Steve Foster with the score only 15 and half the Treeton side were back in the pavilion when the score had reached 46. Matt Lambert came in at number 8 and top scored with 26 but it only delayed the inevitable and the defending Champions were all out for 130. Whitley’s opening bowlers Ben Webster (3 for 34) and Jaco Castle (3 for 37) both took 3 wickets and Alex Welsh went better with 4 for 40. A remarkable aspect of the Treeton innings was that all the 10 wickets to fall were caught out.
After an anxious wait for a rain burst and drying conditions Whitley commenced their innings and the Grenoside team were in no mood to relinquish this opportunity. Steve Bethel opened with Alex Welsh and 75 runs were added when Bethel left for 26. Welsh saw the task to conclusion with an excellent 71 not out which included11 fours. Neil Longhurst had joined him and was 29 not out as Whitley won by 9 wickets.
The result saw Whitley move 9 points clear at the top of the Premier table. However their task gets no easier as in the next 3 weeks they face Wath, a rejuvenated Elsecar and Wickersley, all ready to ensure Whitley’s task is as hard as possible and with Treeton waiting for a slip up by the leaders!
